Seven Trash Spots Found on Ciujung River Banks, DLH Lebak Beware of Rainy Season
LEBAK, GARISBUMI.com – The Lebak Regency Environmental Service (DLH) found at least seven piles of rubbish on the banks of the Ciujung River. It is feared that this rubbish will enter rivers when water levels increase during the rainy season.
The findings were obtained when DLH Lebak together with the Deputy Regent of Lebak Amir Hamzah and members of the Scout Movement conducted a search of the Ciujung River. The officers then picked up the rubbish which was dumped at a number of points around the banks.
Head of DLH Lebak Regency, Irvan Suyatupika, said that the pile of rubbish shows that the habit of throwing rubbish carelessly is still found around the river.
"We still found piles of rubbish on the banks of the Ciujung River. There are at least seven rubbish dumps around the river," said Irvan.
According to him, rubbish on the banks has the potential to be carried into rivers, especially when it rains and water levels increase. This condition can pollute rivers and hinder water flow.
"We collect the rubbish that is thrown on the riverbank together with members of the Lebak Scouts. We urge people not to throw rubbish on the riverbank or directly into the river," he said.
Irvan believes that this condition needs to be addressed immediately, especially ahead of the rainy season. Apart from carrying out transportation, DLH Lebak collaborates with sub-district heads to remind the public about the dangers of littering.
"Of course it is very worrying if this continues, especially before the rainy season. Therefore, we continue to carry out outreach to residents by involving the sub-district heads," he said.
River Surfing Involves Lebak Scouts
Deputy Regent of Lebak Amir Hamzah said that the Ciujung River tracing activity was not only aimed at cleaning the banks, but also at strengthening community awareness of the preservation of the river.
Amir, who also serves as Chair of the Lebak Regency Scout Movement Branch Quarter, assessed that this activity could be a means of instilling environmental awareness in the younger generation.
"The Ciujung River walk is a momentum to strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation and concern for the environment. People should not throw rubbish into the river because there are still people who throw rubbish on the riverbank," he said.
According to Amir, the Scout Movement not only plays a role in shaping the character of the younger generation, but also needs to be directly involved in social activities and environmental conservation.
"Through this river crossing activity, we want to instill awareness in the younger generation so that they work together to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability. Rivers are an important part of people's lives that we must protect together," he said.
He hopes that these activities will not stop at transporting rubbish. Changes in people's habits are needed so that the banks and flow of the Ciujung River do not become a dumping ground again.
"Protecting the environment is not only the government's responsibility, but our collective responsibility. Let's protect the Ciujung River," said Amir.
