Sukapura Encourages Residents to Sort Waste from Home to Reduce Burden on TPS
JAKARTA UTARA, GARISBUMI.com – Sukapura Village, Cilincing District, North Jakarta, is encouraging residents to sort their waste from home to reduce the volume of waste entering temporary shelters (TPS). RT administrators and environmental assistants are involved to provide outreach, technical direction, and monitor implementation.
This step was discussed in a coordination meeting in RT 007 RW 004, Friday (9/10/2026). The meeting involved Sukapura Village Head Mursani, Head of the Economy and Development Section of Sukapura Village, Abdurahim, Head of the local RT, as well as assistants for the North Jakarta Environment Agency.
Sorting is directed at three categories, namely organic, inorganic waste, and hazardous and toxic materials (B3). Residents are expected to be able to separate waste according to type before throwing it away or processing it further.
Mursani said that successful waste management requires citizen involvement. The habit of sorting at the household level is the first step to maintaining a clean environment while also opening up opportunities for reusing materials that are still useful.
"Waste sorting must start from the source, namely households. We hope that residents will become more aware that the simple habit of separating organic, inorganic and B3 waste can have a big impact on environmental cleanliness," said Mursani.
RT Management and LH Facilitators Accompany Residents
To encourage its implementation, RT administrators will work together with environmental assistants to provide technical understanding and direction to the community. Assistance also includes monitoring waste sorting in residents' neighborhoods.
"Therefore, cooperation is needed between sub-districts, RT administrators, LH assistants, and all residents so that this program runs consistently," said Mursani.
He hopes that this step can build the habit of sorting waste in RT 007 RW 004 in a sustainable manner. By sorting it from the source, it is hoped that waste that can still be used will not end up directly in the TPS.
