Serang City's waste is 450 tons a day, around 130 tons have not been picked up
SERANG, GARISBUMI.com – Around 130 tons of waste in Serang City every day has not been collected by the Environmental Service (DLH). This difference comes from the estimated waste generation of 450 tons a day, while the volume that can be transported is only around 320 tons.
Fleet limitations are one of the transportation obstacles. Serang City DLH currently has around 43 waste collection trucks, while the ideal need is estimated to reach 105 units.
Head of DLH Serang City, Farach Richi, said that the estimated daily waste generation was calculated based on a population of around 745 thousand people. The area coverage that receives solid waste services is only around 60-65 percent.
"So the area served is around 60-65 percent. Serang City's waste generation per day can be up to 450 tons per day, calculated from a population of 745 thousand people," said Farach, Friday (2/10/2026).
DLH data shows that around 320 tons of waste can be transported every day. Thus, there is still a difference of around 130 tons from the total estimated generation that has not been transported by this service.
Figures for the volume of waste transported and the percentage of service areas illustrate two different things. Transport of around 320 tons is equivalent to approximately 71 percent of the estimated daily generation, while the figure of 60–65 percent refers to the coverage area served.
Lack of fleets, rubbish piling up on the side of the road
With 43 trucks available, DLH Serang City is still short of around 62 units to reach the estimated ideal needs. This limitation means that transportation services do not reach all areas optimally.
The rubbish problem can be seen on Jalan Penancangan Kesawon, Serang District. Based on Radar Banten's monitoring, household waste has piled up on the side of the road even though signs have been installed at that location prohibiting throwing rubbish.
Piles of rubbish in open spaces also create an unpleasant odor. This condition shows the problems that Serang City still faces in handling household waste, amidst the limited reach of transportation services.
