Tangerang City Government Center Prepared to Become a Low Emission Area
TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – The Tangerang City Government will hold an emissions test on 8–9 September 2026. Vehicles entering low-emission areas must later be declared to have passed the test.
The Tangerang City Government has prepared the Tangerang City Government Center area as a test location for a low-emission area. As a preparation stage, the City Government will hold motor vehicle emissions tests on September 8 and 9 2026.
The emission test took place from 08.00 to 15.00 WIB. The first day of inspection was carried out in the Ayodhya area, Jalan MH Thamrin, on September 8. A day later, the activity was moved to the entrance to the Tangerang City Puspem area.
This activity targets four-wheeled vehicles or more, especially regional government official vehicles, private vehicles used in government offices, and regional company operational vehicles.
Participants must bring a copy of their Vehicle Registration Certificate or STNK. Electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles are excluded from the inspection.
Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin said that emission tests were part of the regional government's efforts to control air pollution originating from the transportation sector.
“The Tangerang City Government continues to take steps and efforts for the people of Tangerang City, including how to make the air we breathe healthy,” said Sachrudin, Thursday, September 3 2026.
According to Sachrudin, checking vehicle emissions should not stop being a routine activity. Test results need to be used to evaluate vehicle emissions as well as determine the steps needed to improve air quality.
“This emission test is not only routine, but also how we carry out evaluations in order to reduce gas emissions in the air so that the people of Tangerang City can live healthy lives,” he said.
This program is also part of the Blue Sky effort which focuses on controlling air pollution, especially emissions produced by motor vehicles.
After carrying out the emission test, the Tangerang City Government will carry out a trial of a low emission area in the Puspem area. Vehicles entering the area must have passed an emissions test, proven by a sticker or inspection result document.
Goods vehicles and public transportation must also have proof of valid periodic tests. The city government prohibits parked vehicles from leaving the engine running or idling.
This provision is expected to reduce emissions released by vehicles while in government areas. This policy also encourages officials and visitors to take part in maintaining air quality.
Apart from emissions testing, the Tangerang City Government encourages the use of public transportation and environmentally friendly vehicles, including battery-based electric vehicles. The habit of sharing vehicles when going to the office is also encouraged to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road.
The trial in the Puspem area could be an initial step to measure the effectiveness of implementing low-emission areas before a similar policy is developed more widely in Tangerang City.
