Waste Management Becomes Lebak Strategic Project, District Government Eyes RDF Technology
LEBAK, GARISBUMI.com – The Lebak Regency Government has designated waste management as one of the regional strategic projects. This policy is directed at building an integrated management system from upstream to downstream while creating economic value from waste.
This commitment is stated in Lebak Regency Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2025 concerning the Regional Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) of Lebak Regency 2025–2029.
Deputy Regent of Lebak Amir Hamzah said that waste should not only be seen as an environmental problem. With the right management system, waste can be processed into economically valuable resources.
"We must carry out waste management in an integrated manner, from upstream to downstream. We want waste not only to be seen as a problem, but also to be managed and utilized so that it has economic value, while still paying attention to environmental aspects," said Amir, Friday (18/9/2026).
Lebak Learn Waste Processing Technology
The Lebak Regency Government also opens up opportunities for collaboration with the private sector which has experience and waste processing technology. This collaboration is considered to be able to help increase regional capacity in dealing with waste problems.
According to Amir, innovation and use of technology are needed because waste management is still one of the challenges in Lebak Regency.
"Collaboration with private parties who have experience and waste processing technology can be an alternative to strengthen regional capacity in dealing with waste problems," he said.
As part of this assessment, the Lebak Regency Government carried out a working visit to the PT Park Tahta Berjaya Airport Sanitation facility in Tangerang City.
The visit was carried out to study the concept of integrated waste management that is environmentally friendly and sustainable.
"Yesterday we made a working visit to PT Park Tahta Berjaya to see firsthand the concept and implementation of integrated waste management that is environmentally friendly and sustainable," said Amir.
During the visit, Lebak Regency Government officials studied the stages of waste management, starting from reducing it at the source, sorting, processing, to using it as refuse-derived fuel or RDF.
RDF is an alternative fuel produced from waste after going through a sorting and processing process. Its use has the potential to reduce the volume of waste that ends up in final processing sites while also replacing some of the use of fossil fuels.
Encourage Green Economic Transformation
Head of the Lebak Regency Environmental Service, Irvan Suyatupika, said that improving waste management was part of efforts to realize the Lebak Hegar program in Lebak Ruhay's vision.
According to Irvan, Lebak Regency needs an immediate and systematic solution through integrated waste management reform.
This system is expected to become part of the regional development ecosystem while supporting the green economic transformation as directed in the National Medium Term Development Plan or RPJMN 2025–2029.
"Through this strategic step, Lebak Regency in the future will not only be ready to receive and process waste, but will also be ready to create a sustainable green economic ecosystem," he said.
By establishing waste management as a regional strategic project, the Lebak Regency Government has a policy basis for strengthening infrastructure, developing technology, building partnerships, and increasing community involvement in reducing and sorting waste from the source.
