Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian conveyed developments in Sumatra's post-disaster recovery at the PRR Task Force Command Post, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/9/2026)

JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – The government has prepared a total budget of IDR 100.1 trillion for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. Recovery includes improvements to infrastructure, education and health services, and economic activities of affected communities.

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian said the central government was continuing to carry out recovery in the three provinces. Tito also serves as Chair of the Sumatra Post-disaster Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (PRR Task Force).

"This is proof that the government, especially the central government, has not remained silent regarding the Sumatran disaster. And we have worked really massively in this rehabilitation and reconstruction phase," said Tito.

This statement was made after the Coordination Meeting on the Development of Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction after Natural Disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra in the field of education, at the PRR Task Force Command Post, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/9/2026).

Recovery Progress Presented Every Week

Tito stated that developments in handling by each ministry and institution would be conveyed every week. Through these periodic explanations, the public can find out about the progress of recovery in various sectors.

That week, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education had the opportunity to convey progress on the recovery of teaching and learning activities. Furthermore, other ministries will explain the handling according to their respective fields.

"There will be further explanations in the following week and the following weeks. The Minister of Public Works (Public Works) will probably explain how to improve road access, bridges, rivers, etc., which are also massive," said Tito.

Restoration of Residents' Rice Fields and Ponds

According to Tito, rehabilitation and reconstruction does not only focus on infrastructure. Recovery also includes access to health and economic activities which are sources of livelihood for affected communities.

He gave the example of the program to restore rice fields affected by disasters carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture under the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is handling the restoration of residents' ponds.

Tito believes that explanations to the public are still needed even though people who are in direct contact with recovery activities already know about the work in the field.

"Even though in the field many people who come into contact already know, we need to do a general explanation. We will do that explanation every week," he said.
