Galuga Landfill Fire, KLH Prepares Air Quality Monitoring Equipment
BOGOR, GARISBUMI.com โ The Ministry of the Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) will install mobile air quality monitoring equipment around the Galuga Final Processing Site (TPA), Bogor, West Java, following the fire that occurred on Monday, September 7 2026.
This tool is used to measure the level of air pollution due to fire smoke. The monitoring results will be the basis for local governments in determining handling steps and conveying advice to the community.
Deputy Minister of the Environment/Deputy Head of Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Diaz Hendropriyono said a monitoring system was needed so that the air conditions around the Galuga TPA could be known in a measurable way.

According to Diaz, efforts are being made to install monitoring equipment as quickly as possible so that the public can obtain information regarding the level of risk in the air around the fire location.
“Hopefully this tool can be installed today or tomorrow so that residents know how dangerous the air conditions are in this area,” he said.
Galuga Landfill Fire Extinguishing Continues
The fire was first identified on Monday at around 16.00 WIB. The fire initially appeared in a plantation area before spreading to the Galuga TPA area.
Joint officers immediately put out the fire and built partitions to control the spread of the fire. The extinguishing and cooling process is still being carried out to ensure that there are no hot spots left in the inner waste layer.
Diaz appreciated the handling carried out by the Bogor City Government, Bogor Regency Government, firefighters, Indonesian Air Force and other elements.
“The handling was very fast, both from the Bogor City and Regency Government. "We also appreciate the environmental services, firefighters and Indonesian Air Force who have carried out 10 water bombing sorties," he said. he said.
He hopes that the process of extinguishing and cooling the Galuga TPA fire can be completed within one to two days.
Regional Heads Asked to Prevent Landfill Fires
KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) asked local governments to increase preparedness to prevent similar fires, especially when facing extreme hot weather and the El Niño phenomenon.
These steps have been outlined in the Circular Letter of the Minister of the Environment Number 11 of 2026 concerning Increasing Fire Preparedness and Anticipation at TPAs โโin Extreme Hot Weather Conditions.
The circular stipulates a number of preventive measures, including regular wetting of the landfill area and increased monitoring through patrols.
“We have issued a circular to regional heads and environmental agencies regarding steps that need to be taken during the El Niño period. "The goal is to ensure that landfill fires do not occur again, spread and grow rapidly," he said. Diaz said.
KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) will also coordinate with local governments to monitor the implementation of the circular letter. The level of compliance of each region will be included in the ministry's monitoring system.

Apart from preparing air quality monitoring equipment, KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) provided assistance in the form of food, drinks, masks and eye medication to the fire team on duty in the field.
