Students discuss activities at the Pekalongan Climate School at the Nirwana Hotel, Pekalongan City, Friday (9/10/2026)

PEKALONGAN, GARISBUMI.com – As many as 30 students from 10 high schools/vocational schools in Pekalongan City took part in the Climate School Program to study the challenges of land subsidence and tidal flooding. They are prepared to carry out climate change adaptation projects, ranging from urban agriculture to water conservation.

The program opened at the Permata Room Hotel Nirwana, Pekalongan City, Friday (9/10/2026). This activity invites students to understand coastal environmental issues through learning, field observations and actions in the surrounding environment.

Project Officer Comdev Program Adaptation Fund KEMITRAAN Indonesia, Eva S. Nisa, said that students are expected to be able to bring about change through simple habits that are beneficial for the environment.

"The hope is that all 30 students can become agents of change. They can do small things, even though they are simple, but are beneficial for themselves and the environment," he said after the opening.

Pekalongan Climate School is a KEMITRAAN program with Evorise Consulting or PT Evorise Strategi Lestari as the technical implementer. This activity also involves the KOBAR Community or Young Generation Action Collaboration.

Learning takes place through three stages, namely learning, acting and communicating. With this stage, participants are invited to recognize environmental conditions, take action, then share their knowledge with others.

After the opening, the students visited the Hoegeng Stadium to observe land subsidence and its monitoring devices. They also learned about waste management and the principles of reducing, reusing and recycling or 3R at TPS-3R Padukuhan Kraton.

The field visit also included Pekalongan Mangrove Park to get to know the mangrove ecosystem.

Students Prepare 10 Adaptation Projects

This learning will be continued with the implementation of 10 adaptation projects on 15–18 October 2026. The projects prepared include urban agriculture, waste management, mangrove nurseries and water conservation.

"On 15-18 October 2026, students will carry out 10 adaptation projects, such as urban agriculture, waste management, mangrove nurseries and water conservation. The series of programs will continue with the inauguration of the Pekalongan Climate Care Student Community on 27 October 2026," explained Eva.

Through this program, participants are also invited to get used to sorting waste, reducing single-use plastic, growing vegetables and saving water. It is hoped that they can pass on this habit to their family and friends.

"It is hoped that these simple steps taken together will be able to grow a young generation who cares and is active in strengthening Pekalongan's coastal resilience," he concluded.
