Drought Affects 5,574 Banggai Islands Residents, Fire in Luwu Hasn't Been Extinguished
In the statement delivered by Plt. Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Berton SP Panjaitan, the public is asked to increase vigilance according to their respective environmental conditions.
To prevent forest and land fires, BNPB urges residents not to burn land, not to throw cigarette butts carelessly, and to immediately report Hotspots. The safety of officers and residents who help with extinguishing fires also needs to be considered, especially in steep terrain and during strong winds.
Facing extreme weather, residents are asked to check the condition of their roofs, trim fragile branches, and avoid taking shelter under trees or billboards when it rains and strong winds. Visitors to nature tourism need to pay attention to weather changes and follow the officers' directions if conditions are unsafe.
BNPB also reminded local governments to map vulnerable areas, prepare personnel, equipment and logistics, and strengthen early warning systems. The public is advised to monitor official BMKG information, understand evacuation routes, and prepare a standby bag containing emergency needs for three days.
