Dry Weather, Tangerang City Residents are Urged Not to Burn Trash
TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – The Tangerang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) urges the public not to burn rubbish carelessly, especially in residential areas. This appeal is conveyed as a simple step to prevent fires when the weather tends to be dry.
The Chief Executive of the Tangerang City BPBD, Mahdiar, said that burning rubbish in open spaces could trigger a fire to spread to houses, empty land and surrounding buildings.
The risk of fire is greater if the burning location is filled with flammable materials, such as dry leaves and grass, plastic, cardboard and used goods. Gusts of wind can also cause fire to grow and spread quickly.
Therefore, the public is asked to manage household waste in a safer way. Waste can be sorted from home based on type, then distributed through waste management services available in each environment.
"Inorganic waste such as plastic bottles, cardboard, paper, cans and other items of economic value can also be collected through waste banks. Apart from helping reduce waste that ends up in landfills, this step can provide economic value for the community," said Mahdiar, Friday (25/9/2026).
Take advantage of the Waste Bank and TPS3R
According to Mahdiar, the public can take advantage of various environmentally based waste management facilities and activities, such as waste banks, waste processing sites using the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle (TPS3R), composting, and waste alms programs.
Through this management, waste does not need to be burned and can still be processed into products that are useful or have economic value.
Not burning rubbish is also important to maintain air quality around your home. Smoke from burning waste can disturb comfort and pose a risk to public health.
"Aside from preventing potential fires, not burning rubbish also helps maintain air quality in the living environment. Smoke from burning can disturb comfort and has the potential to have an impact on health, especially for children, the elderly and people who are sensitive to smoke," he explained.
Residents Asked to Remind Each Other
Tangerang City BPBD invites residents to increase awareness of the potential for fires in their respective environments. Communities can remind each other not to burn rubbish, maintain cleanliness around the house, and prevent the accumulation of flammable materials on empty land and residential areas.
Residents are also asked to immediately report if they find potentially dangerous waste burning activities or other incidents that could trigger a fire.
"If they find potentially dangerous waste burning or see an incident that could trigger a fire, the public can immediately report it through the government's complaint channel. Clear location information will help officers handle it according to conditions in the field," emphasized Mahdiar.
