Cilegon Receives 91 Units of Waste Facilities, Encourages Segregation from Source
The Cilegon City Government will also monitor the use of these facilities to provide benefits to the community, as well as help deal with the increase in waste generation in the city.
Waste Sorting Becomes the Foundation
Head of the Banten Building, Infrastructure and Area Management Center, Luciana Angelin Narua, said that integrated waste management needs to start from the source of generation. These sources include households, residential areas, markets, schools, health facilities and offices.
"Integrated waste management must start from the source of waste generation. The success of the waste management system really depends on changes in community behavior," he said.
Luciana explained that sorting from the source can increase opportunities for reuse of waste that still has economic value. This step also helps reduce residue that must be handled at the final processing site (TPA).
Therefore, the facilities provided through the ISWMP program need to be part of an orderly and sustainable waste collection system. Operation and maintenance must also be maintained so that services can run consistently.
"Support for this facility should be the start of improving the quality of waste services, strengthening waste reduction at the source, and reducing waste that ends up at the final processing site," he said.
Luciana invites all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in waste management. Citizen participation is an important part so that the addition of facilities goes hand in hand with reducing waste from the source.
