Bima Plants 600 Mangrove Seedlings, Care is Key to Coastal Protection
BIMA CITY, GARISBUMI.com – A total of 600 mangrove seedlings were planted in the western Lawata and Niu Beach areas, Bima City, Friday (2/10/2026). This planting is intended to help protect the coastline from abrasion while strengthening the coastal ecosystem.
Deputy Mayor of Bima Feri Sofyan reminded that these activities should be followed by consistent maintenance and supervision. According to him, long-term benefits can only be felt if the seeds planted grow well.
This mangrove planting action is a collaboration between the Bima City Government through the Environmental Service (DLH) together with the National Urban Flood Resilience Project (NUFReP) program. This activity is part of efforts to support flood resilience and environmental preservation in Bima City.
In his speech, Feri said that the results of tree planting might not be visible in the near future. However, the efforts made now are expected to benefit the next generation.
"Maybe today we cannot feel the benefits of what we did this morning, but our children and grandchildren will enjoy the results in the future," he said.
Apart from helping to protect the coastline, mangrove planting in Lawata and Niu is expected to support the restoration of coastal ecosystems. Therefore, Feri hopes that planting activities will not stop as a ceremonial agenda.
He also mentioned the condition of a number of hills in Bima City which still look dry and barren. According to him, this condition needs to be an encouragement to expand the greening movement.
"We must not resign ourselves to accepting the situation. There must be real effort and effort to maintain and create nature that is green, cool and beneficial for our lives," he stressed.
Feri appreciated the involvement of DLH and various parties in this action. He hopes that the planting movement can be carried out sustainably until it becomes a community habit.
According to him, behavior change takes time, especially when old habits are entrenched. Activities carried out consistently are expected to foster awareness of the environment.
"We hope that this movement will continue and become a tradition and culture of the community," he said.
The planting action was also attended by officials from the Bima City Government, DPRD leadership, law enforcement elements, TNI, Polri, and a number of related agencies.
