River Abrasion Damages Houses in Bongohulawa, New Embankment Plans 80 of 450 Meters Required
GORONTALO, GARISBUMI.com – Erosion of the river bank in Bongohulawa Village, Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency, has damaged parts of residents' houses. Despite the need to handle around 450 meters of embankment, the work planned for the current fiscal year only covers around 80 meters.
The gap in needs and handling plans emerged when Commission III of the Gorontalo Province DPRD carried out field supervision in the Huludu Pitango irrigation area, Saturday (7/11/2026). The visit was led by the Chairman of Commission III, Espin Tulie, to check the condition of river flows and threats to settlements, especially in Ward III.
According to Espin, based on information from the sub-district, the handling needs are spread across three points with a length of around 150 meters each. The location covers the Ward III area and the back of the Bongohulawa Village Office.
With a planned work area of around 80 meters, the handling coverage is only around 18 percent of the needs submitted by the sub-district. There is still a difference of around 370 meters that has not been covered in the plan.
Residents' kitchens and septic tanks collapsed
In a statement from the Gorontalo Provincial DPRD Secretariat, Espin said that residents had felt the impact of river bank erosion directly. Several parts of the house, including the kitchen and septic tank, reportedly collapsed due to erosion by the water flow.
These findings show that the problems in Bongohulawa have touched the security of residents' residences. However, the information provided did not specify the number of damaged houses or the number of families in the threatened area.
