SOUTH TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang Pilar Saga Ichsan asked that the habit of protecting the environment be instilled from an early age. One step is to get children to be responsible for the waste they produce.

This message was conveyed by Pilar when attending the Socialization of the Implementation of the Adiwiyata Program for City Level Adiwiyata School Candidates in 2027 at the Cooperative and UMKM Gallery Building, Serpong, South Tangerang City, Wednesday (7/10/2026).

According to Pilar, environmental education needs to start when children are building habits. If it is only given as an adult, efforts to change behavior are considered more difficult because habits have already been formed.

"If we implement it when we are adults, it feels like it will be too late. This habit must be started from an early age," he said.

Pilar believes that concern for the environment can be built through simple actions, such as not littering. Children need to understand that the waste they produce is their own responsibility, including when they haven't found a place to throw it away.

"If we have trash, at least we take it to the vehicle or store it. When we find a trash can, then we throw it away," he said.

He said that there was still rubbish scattered in public spaces as a sign that environmental education needed to be strengthened. Therefore, children need to be the main targets for forming habits of maintaining cleanliness.
