PANGKALPINANG, GARISBUMI.com – The Pangkalpinang City Government is preparing steps to enforce sanctions for residents who throw rubbish carelessly. The types of sanctions that will be imposed are still being studied, while cleaning up the area and increasing public awareness are priorities.

Pangkalpinang Mayor Saparudin conveyed this during the Asri Friday mutual cooperation activity on Jalan Baru Kampak, Friday (9/10/2026).

According to Saparudin, cleaning activities have been carried out several times in the area. However, keeping the environment clean requires changing people's habits so that waste is no longer thrown away carelessly.

"We want to raise public awareness not to litter," he said.

He emphasized that environmental cleanliness requires active community participation. Mutual cooperation activities need to be accompanied by residents' concern in managing daily waste.

Form of Sanctions Still Under Review

Apart from mobilizing residents through Asri Friday, the Pangkalpinang City Government is preparing to implement sanctions for littering. However, Saparudin said the form of sanctions needed to be studied first.

The city government will also continue to involve regional officials, village heads, RT heads and RW heads in mutual cooperation activities. They are expected to actively encourage residents to keep the environment clean on a regular basis.

Regarding the possibility of installing surveillance cameras or CCTV on Jalan Baru Kampak, Saparudin said this step had not been planned for that area.

"Currently, we are still prioritizing cleaning the area. Through the Asri Friday movement, we hope that public awareness will increase, so that environmental cleanliness does not only depend on mutual cooperation activities, but also becomes a daily habit," he said.
