Indonesia Brings Just Climate Transition to the UN, Encourages Financing for Developing Countries
NEW YORK, GARISBUMI.com – Indonesia is calling for global climate ambition to be translated into real action that protects society while opening up development opportunities. The transition to a low-carbon economy, according to the government, must be fair, affordable and provide direct benefits for vulnerable groups.
This appeal was conveyed by the Minister of the Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) Moh Jumhur Hidayat in the Interactive Leaders Dialogue at the 2026 Climate Summit on Climate Action and the Just Transition at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, Wednesday (23/9/2026).
The meeting, which is part of the 81st UN General Assembly Session, was held ahead of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change or COP31 UNFCCC.
The forum discussed three main challenges, namely accelerating emissions reduction and a just transition, expanding affordable financing for developing countries, and strengthening community adaptation and resilience to climate risks.
"The Paris Agreement is our compass. However, when the space to maintain a temperature increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius is increasingly narrowing, our task is to bridge global commitments into real results," said Jumhur.
According to him, the implementation of climate commitments must remain guided by justice and the principle of shared responsibility which differs according to the capabilities of each country.
