Acehnese Youth Invited to Filter Environmental Information Before Sharing It
ACEH, GARISBUMI.com – Aceh's young generation is invited to be more critical in examining information regarding the environment, forestry, disasters and wildlife before spreading it via social media.
This message was one of the discussions at the Youth Talk Forest Youthverse Resilience Summit Aceh 2026 which was held by the Center for the Development of Generations of Forest Conservationists on Friday, August 28 2026.
The activity brings together the younger generation to share experiences regarding hydrometeorological disasters, conservation and youth action.
Three young people were speakers, namely Evriani Rotua Gea, a master's student at Syiah Kuala University and a veterinary assistant; Jamalul, student at the Faculty of Law, Syiah Kuala University; and Jihan Asyifa who is active in environmental activities.
Evriani highlighted the rapid flow of environmental information through social media. According to him, young people should not immediately believe the information that appears on the screen.
Sources of information need to be sought, then compared with news reports or other references before someone draws conclusions and disseminates them.
This literacy is important because photos or videos about floods, forest fires or animal conflicts can spread very quickly, but are not necessarily accompanied by information about the correct location, time and context.
Misinformation also has the potential to create wrong perceptions about wildlife and conservation efforts.
Jamalul emphasized that environmental issues and disasters require collective awareness. Meanwhile, Jihan encouraged young people to start taking action from their respective abilities and environment.
Sustainable living habits therefore do not always take the form of using environmentally friendly products or reducing waste.
In the digital space, one form of this is not rushing to press the share button.
Checking sources, understanding the context and not spreading unverified information is also part of environmental responsibility.
