180 Houses in Gertas Share Two Drilled Wells, Residents Hope for Additional Infiltration Wells
SEMARANG, GARISBUMI.com – Around 180 houses in Gertas Hamlet, Brongkol Village, Jambu District, Semarang Regency, still rely on two drilled wells which are used in turns. Residents hope that the addition of infiltration wells can help maintain water availability, especially during the dry season.
The hamlet, which is divided into five neighborhood units (RT), has five infiltration wells. Built in 2019, residents feel that its existence helps maintain the stability of water discharge.
Isroudin, a resident of Gertas Hamlet, said that previously the water flow from drilled wells tended to be small. After the infiltration well was built, he felt the water supply was more stable.
"Thank God, after the absorption well was installed, the discharge began to stabilize. So, this dry season is very supportive and profitable for the people of Gertas Hamlet," said Isroudin, as quoted by the Public Relations of the Central Java Provincial Government.
However, water use still needs to be regulated. According to Isroudin, each RT gets a turn of around two to three hours. This condition makes residents hope that the number of infiltration wells will be increased to support the community's water needs.
Water Conservation from the Home Environment
Five infiltration wells in Gertas were built through community self-help with support from the Semarang Regency Agricultural Service. Each is about three meters deep.
