Don't throw it away, PKK Jepara invites residents to donate used cooking oil
JEPARA, GARISBUMI.com – Used cooking oil from household kitchens is being encouraged to become part of the environmental awareness movement in Jepara Regency, Central Java. The Jepara Regency Family Empowerment and Welfare Mobilization Team (TP PKK) invites the community to collect used cooking oil through the Used Cooking Oil ATM (Mijel) movement so that it can be managed and has economic value.
Jepara Regency TP PKK Chair Ella Witiarso Utomo asked the heads of regional apparatus organizations (OPD) to also set an example by collecting used cooking oil from their respective homes, then donating it to the PKK movement.
This invitation was conveyed during the inauguration of the Chairman of the Annual District PKK TP in Pendapa Kartini, Jepara, Monday (5/10/2026).
"Don't let the used cooking oil be thrown away. Let's collect it and donate it to the PKK movement. If we collect a little from each house, it will be a lot and have benefits," said Ella.
According to him, the support of the OPD head needs to be realized through direct involvement. It is hoped that this example will expand the collection of used cooking oil from PKK cadres to families, offices, schools and the community.
Build the Habit of Managing Waste from Home
The Mijel ATM movement was developed by TP PKK Jepara Regency to encourage the collection of used cooking oil while building habits for managing household waste.
Used cooking oil which is often thrown away can be collected for further management and provide economic value. Through this movement, the PKK hopes that people will become more accustomed to separating waste that can still be used.
"This is not just about used cooking oil, but how we build new habits. Waste that was previously considered useless can be collected, managed and provide value to society," said Ella.
Connect with Waste Bank Education
The collection of used cooking oil complements waste management education efforts previously encouraged by the Jepara Regency TP PKK.
Through GEBER EMAS or the Joint Community Education Movement, PKK is collaborating with the Kartini PKK Waste Bank and the Jepara Main Waste Bank to strengthen waste management education at the sub-district level.
This collaboration is expected to expand community participation in managing waste from home. Apart from reducing the potential for environmental pollution, the collection and use of used cooking oil is also expected to open up economic opportunities for the community.
