Kendari Learns about Mobile Composting and Food Security of North Gandaria Residents
JAKARTA, LINE BUMI, GARISBUMI.com – Kendari City Government is studying the processing of organic waste into compost and land use for food security in RT 11/RW 07 North Gandaria, South Jakarta. This practice, which involves citizen collaboration, is a reference for developing community-based environmental management in Kendari.
Kendari Mayor Siska Karina Imran and staff inspected the various innovations directly during a mock study visit to North Gandaria Village, Kebayoran Baru District, Thursday (8/10/2026). The group was received by Kebayoran Baru Subdistrict Head Rachmat Mulyadi along with local regional government officials.
This environment develops the RT 11 Smart concept which combines waste management, security, food security and increasing residents' abilities. His innovation also led RT 11/RW 07 to become the champion of the Jakarta Innovation Award.
"What is interesting for us is how one environment is able to manage various aspects in an integrated manner. Not only security, but also waste management, food security and increasing community capacity. This is a very good lesson for us to adapt according to the needs of Kendari City," said Siska.
Processing Organic Waste through Komling and KOMA
In the waste sector, North Gandaria residents have developed Mobile Compost (Komling) and Independent Composter (KOMA). The Kendari City Government group saw the application of processing organic waste into compost through this innovation.
The visit also covered land use for food security. Both practices are part of environmental management built with community involvement.
Chairman of RT 11/RW 07 Imam Basori said that innovation in his area started from the needs of the residents and was developed in stages.
"We are trying to solve environmental problems by involving residents. After security has been strengthened, we are developing waste management, food security and increasing residents' abilities. In principle, RT must be a space for community collaboration," explained Imam.
Citizen Collaboration is the Basis for RT Management
Apart from waste management and food security, the RT 11 Smart concept includes smart gates, CCTV surveillance cameras, and emergency buttons or panic buttons to support environmental security.
Increasing community capacity is carried out through the RT English program. The Kendari City Government delegation also saw the implementation of the program during a series of visits.
Siska assesses that the integrated approach provides lessons for Kendari in dealing with problems at the environmental level. The practices learned will become a reference to be adapted to regional needs and characteristics.
Through this mock study, the Kendari City Government hopes that RT management can develop as a forum for citizen cooperation to create a safe, clean, productive and independent environment, while simultaneously carrying out government administrative functions.
